After completion of the Beginners Course students are encouraged to attend a grading. The grading structure is as follows;

8th Kyu-2nd Kyu inclusive are allowed to enter a grading every 56 days. 1st Kyu and above can grade once a month. The Dan gradings at the Budokwai are National Gradings and operate outside normal time limits.
Dan Grades (Black Belts) are graded 1st-5th Dan. Honorary grades 6th-10th Dan are awarded by the national governing body and European Judo Union.
The grading requirements involves both theory and contest elements both of which are catered for on the day but competitors are normally expected to complete the theory before the contest section.
Gradings are held on the last sunday of every month except December. Candidates are required to have an up to date BJA license and book in time is from 11am and grading fees are set at £15. First contest starts at 12 noon.

WOMEN'S GRADINGS
The Budokwai will be holding gradings especially aimed at Women Judoka. These will be held on normal grading days, however particular emphasis will be on Women Judoka to encourage a good turnout. These gradings have been highlighted in red on the above dates.
