Devizes 33rd Invitation Tournament

Tuesday 07 October 2008

Four members of the Budokwai were in action at the Weekend at the 33rd
Devizes Invitation Tournament, bringing home two golds and two silver
medals.

Alex Farbon, at u73kg. won the gold medal producing an assured display and
dispatching all of his opponents for the maximum ippon score. The pick of
these was a lightening foot-sweep in the final.

James Gilmore coasted through to the final beating former Junior British
Champion, Jason Woolerton on the way, in which was his toughest bout until the
final where he narrowly lost to Tom Reed, silver medalist at last year's u23
European Championships. He thus had to settle for silver after a close 5minute
fight.

Jonathon Purssey took the gold medal in the u90kg category, winning
5matches, 4 by ippon. In the final he beat Sean Dineen with some efficient
transition from standing.

In the Open weight category, the silver medal was taken by a large Polish blue belt (unclear of his name), after winning 3 of his 4 contests.

For a large man he was very quick with his attacks and produced some great judo.

Congratulations to you all!!
